FLO-D & FLO-D Mini Mark 2 related questions

Is JIMCO’s technology environmentally friendly?

Yes, all JIMCO products are environmentally friendly, Over the years, JIMCO A/S has been awarded a number of prizes for its products – including the EU’s environmental award, the environmental award of the Region of Funen “Fyns Amts Miljøpris” which are really good proofs for company's environmentally friendliness.

Does JIMCO’s technology use chemicals?

NO - The JIMCO technology has won EU’s environmental Award for Cleaner Technology. The environmentally friendly solutions from JIMCO are chemical-free and re-creates a natural process called photolytic oxidation.

Why is surface disinfection with the JIMCO FLO-D technology safer than using chemical disinfection?

JIMCO’s FLO-D Technology is based on UV-C produced Ozone, which is the natures own way to disinfect biofilm, mold, fungus etc. The combination of UV-C and Ozone leaves no harmful residues and does not make any corrosions on the process equipment and the surroundings.

The fact that Ozone is a perfect trouble-shooter for killing all organic materials including humans, means that ozone needs to be used carefully. The safety of the equipment is the highest priority for JIMCO and has a lot of features included that nothing will result in any harm for humans. Furthermore “Ozone” means smell in Greek, so no matter what, you will always register an ozone treatment and leave the room.

The fact that the normal chemical disinfection with for example Chlorine and Peroxid is way more dangerous for humans and the surroundings. It is well-known that these chemicals are carcinogenic and do not give any good for humans. Besides, normal disinfection routines still include these chemicals and some employee should spray chemicals everywhere in the processing area. With JIMCO’s technology, there will be no manpower included in that process, so no humans will be affected.

Can JIMCO FLO-D technology for surface disinfection remove Listeria, salmonella and similar bacterias?

Yes JIMCO has great experiences with killing Listeria.

Listeria is one f the most resistant and strongest bacterias when it can be defeated by JIMCO technology, other similar bacterias would be definitely defeated.

feel free to ask the further question via our E-mail.

Can JIMCO’s technology eliminate mould, fungi, bacteria and yeast?

YES – JIMCO’s technology is thoroughly tested and even the smallest unit will eliminate mold, fungi, bacteria, viruses and yeast.

Can JIMCO extend the life of food and vegetable?

Yes, JIMCO can extend the life of fruit and vegetables by reducing ethylene gasses substantially. Ethylene is produced from essentially all parts of higher plants, including leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruits, tubers, and seeds. Ethylene is speeding up the ripening process and, in the end, it will make fruit and vegetable rotten faster.

The JIMCO technology can also reduce bacteria, fungi, mold, and yeast.

Is JIMCO technology capable of reducing ethylene gases? Why it’s a good idea to reduce the ethylene?

Yes, JIMCO A/S has conducted a test with a recognized, certified, third-party institute in Denmark. We have tested the reduction of ethylene gasses using the JIMCO air purifier MAC500.

The test concludes that our technology will reduce ethylene gasses substantially. This can be used to extend the life of fruit and vegetables. Ethylene is produced from essentially all parts of higher plants, including leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruits, tubers, and seeds. Ethylene is speeding up the ripening process and, in the end, it will make fruit and vegetable rotten faster.

Is UV-C light dangerous to humans?

Yes, direct exposure to UV-C light is dangerous, it can cause rapid sunburn and skin cancer. Exposure of the eyes to this UV radiation can produce extremely painful inflammation of the cornea and temporary or permanent vision impairment, up to and including blindness in some cases.

It’s so important that UV-C light is shielded and protected by special equipment, and that's exactly what Jimco does with all the systems using UV-C light. Safety is the highest priority for JIMCO.

Is ozone dangerous to humans?

Ozone could be dangerous, but it is safe when used properly. There is no reason to fear ozone. Low levels of ozone are all around us and are safe to breathe.Overly high ozone exposure in an occupied room is not recommended. We use the right amount of ozone in our systems. It is very important for JIMCO to control over the ozone level since we care a lot about people’s health and safety.

Is ozone dangerous to animals and plants?

It is important to use ozone correctly in connection with animals and plants. JIMCO A/S has gained experience in the following fields:

Breeding of fish: Here ozone produced by means of light is added to clear the water, remove the coating on the tank and to eliminate diseases from fish, resulting in an improved feeding quotient. This would not be possible if using Corona Ozone (high-voltage ozone).

Breeding of chicken: Here ozone is added through the injection ducts resulting in sterilization of the air. The ozone also lays a protective layer on the animals, and thus minimize the danger of infection.

Greenhouses: Light produced ozone is added in greenhouses to destroy molds and to minimize the danger of infection among the plants. However, it is important that the treatment is made in hours with daylight as the photosynthesis affect the use of ozone. Also, ozone is added to the water to avoid that molds are spread through the irrigation system.

Therefore we must point out, that ozone is not harmful to animals and plants when used correctly, on the contrary.

Can rubber and electrical wires/cables be damaged if ozone is present?

It is correct that ozone affects all organic compounds. However, there is a considerable difference whether it is a continuous influence or just a treatment. There is no risk in treating a car with the MAC/OZ compact cleaners.

Therefore there is no risk in using the compact cleaner in offices and in private homes, as the compact cleaners are not powerful enough to fill such large rooms with high concentrations of ozone resulting in damaged cables and rubber.

Can I stay in a room that is being treated with ozone?

It is true that the lungs might be affected by the continuous influence of ozone air, however, it is a question of concentrations. The EU has a limit on how much ozone is allowed to be in a room, where people are present. This limit is 0,1 ppm (the same limit as the Danish Working Environment Service has set) and this is a considerably high level. Normally, there is no reason to have such a high level.

If only a small amount of ozone is present, you have an oxidation potential resulting in an improved indoor climate. We recommend using the MAC500 in offices and in private homes. Larger rooms can be treated with the compact cleaner OZ1000 without danger to your health as large rooms demand more ozone for the correct treatment.

What is the difference between the Jimco method and the ozone produced by high voltage (Corona Ozone)?

JIMCO only produces ozone-applying UV-lamps. This means that clean ozone without any other compounds is made.

If you would apply a high voltage to produce ozone, then oxygen combines with nitrogen. This means that NOX is produced contrary to ozone produced by UV-lamps – and Nitric Oxide (NOX) is an environmental problem.

High-voltage ozone generators must therefore always be used adding clean oxygen – e.g. from an oxygen cylinder or from an oxygen generator.

However, when you produce ozone by means of UV-light you do not have the necessary energy available to produce NOX. That is the reason why the JIMCO method is preferable when you care about your employees and the environment.

Do authorities approve the use of the JIMCO system?

JIMCO’s FLO-D Technology has the FDA, USDA and Health Canada approvals that were necessary to penetrate the markets that they cover. In Europe, it is another story. Because of the innovation and the fact that JIMCO is the first and only company in the world, that has launched a product for surface disinfection by this function and technology, that means that the approval in Europe is an ongoing process that we are working on. In the meantime, there is no problem in using the equipment for surface technology. This process is legal.
