FAQ
Technology
How does JIMCO FLO-D® work?
FLO-D® (Photolytic Oxidation – Disinfection) uses specially developed UV-C lamps that generate ozone directly from oxygen in the ambient air.
During treatment, the ozone is distributed throughout the entire area, where it oxidises microorganisms and biofilm on exposed surfaces. Once the treatment is completed, the ozone naturally breaks down back into oxygen.
The technology automates surface disinfection without the use of chemicals, manpower, water or filters.
Does JIMCO use chemicals for surface disinfection?
No.
FLO-D® generates ozone directly from the surrounding air using UV-C technology. The system does not use chemical disinfectants, water or other consumables.
The treatment leaves no chemical residues on treated surfaces.
What is the difference between JIMCO UV-C generated ozone and corona discharge ozone?
Corona discharge systems generate ozone using high voltage. Due to the high energy level, nitrogen oxides (NOx) are produced as a by-product. NOx is a contaminant and an acidic gas that may cause corrosion of technical installations.
JIMCO's UV-C based ozone generation produces ozone directly from oxygen in the ambient air without generating nitrogen oxides (NOx).
JIMCO has used this technology in industrial installations since the early 1990s.
Food Production
Does FLO-D® eliminate Salmonella and Listeria?
FLO-D® is developed for automated surface disinfection in food production, where high standards of hygiene and food safety are required.
JIMCO has documented experience from installations where analyses have shown no detectable presence of Salmonella or Listeria monocytogenes on treated surfaces.
FLO-D® therefore forms an active part of eliminating Salmonella, Listeria and other unwanted microorganisms while supporting documented food safety and biosecurity.
Which microorganisms is FLO-D® documented against?
FLO-D® demonstrates a high disinfection effect against bacteria, viruses, yeasts and fungi and supports documented hygiene programmes.
Where is FLO-D® used?
FLO-D® is used in:
- Food processing
- Meat and poultry production
- Hatcheries and egg production
- Fish and seafood processing
- Dairy production and cheese ripening
- Fruit and vegetable processing
- Packaging facilities
- Warehouses and cold storage facilities
- Laboratories
- Healthcare facilities
- Transportation
- Commercial kitchens
FLO-D® integrates into existing cleaning and hygiene procedures, automating surface disinfection outside production hours while documenting every treatment cycle.
Is FLO-D® used in hatcheries?
Yes.
JIMCO supplies UV-C and ozone-based solutions to hatcheries and the poultry industry in several countries.
FLO-D® supports biosecurity programmes through automated surface disinfection, documentation and consistent hygiene procedures.
Safety
Is UV-C light harmful to people?
Direct exposure to UV-C light is harmful to skin and eyes.
FLO-D® is therefore designed with integrated safety features that ensure controlled operation and complete shielding of the UV-C light during treatment.
Is ozone harmful to people?
Ozone is used in controlled concentrations as part of the disinfection process.
FLO-D® performs treatments without personnel present. Once the treatment is completed, the ozone naturally breaks down back into oxygen.
Is ozone safe for food production?
Yes.
Ozone has been used in food production and industrial environments for many years.
FLO-D® combines ozone with automated control, monitoring and integrated safety features to ensure a controlled disinfection process.
Can people remain in the room during treatment?
No.
FLO-D® performs treatments in areas without personnel present.
The integrated safety functions ensure that treatment is only carried out under the correct operating conditions.
Does ozone affect cables, rubber or equipment?
FLO-D® operates with controlled treatment cycles and is used in industrial environments with existing production equipment and installations.
Material compatibility is evaluated as part of each project, and JIMCO provides guidance regarding specific materials and installations when required.
Documentation & Monitoring
Does FLO-D® document the disinfection process?
Yes.
All FLO-D® models record and document every treatment cycle.
The system records treatment time, date, ozone levels, temperature and humidity as documentation of the completed treatment.
Historical treatment data is stored and available for audits, quality control and internal hygiene procedures.
Is FLO-D® supplied with data logging and cloud monitoring?
Yes.
All FLO-D® models include data logging, cloud-based monitoring and documentation.
The system provides access to historical treatment data, alarms and operating information while supporting traceability and quality management.
Does FLO-D® document that the treatment has been completed?
Yes.
FLO-D® records key operating parameters during every treatment cycle and documents that the treatment has been completed as planned.
Historical treatment data is stored and available for audits, quality control and internal hygiene procedures.
Can multiple FLO-D® systems be monitored from the same platform?
Yes.
The FLO-D® cloud solution collects operating data and treatment history from multiple units, production areas and factories into one platform.
Companies with multiple locations gain central monitoring, consistent documentation and access to treatment data across their organisation.
Sizing
What room sizes can FLO-D® treat?
JIMCO supplies FLO-D® solutions for everything from small production rooms to large industrial facilities.
Each system is dimensioned according to room volume, layout, production environment and hygiene requirements to ensure the optimum disinfection solution.
